Machine Operator I, CSC

Purpose

Machine Operator I provides a basic introduction to the career field of machining. Students will learn the basics of machining, blueprint reading, and shop safety. Additionally, students will start to learn CNC programming and implementation. Students completing this career studies certification should be able to find employment as a machinist helper. Credentials from NIMS and OHSA are eligible to be earned through this program.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  1.  An understanding of precision measuring that leads to industry-recognized Starrett and NIMS certification.
  2. Proficiency with the manual machining of parts and the techniques that improve their efficiency on machines. 
  3. Proficiency in blueprint reading and applying that understanding to successfully machining a workpiece. 
  4. Proficiency with CNC lathes and mills and the ability to program machines to successfully complete tasks. 
  5. An understanding and application of safety practices according to OSHA standards. 
  6. Employability skills such as technical writing and effective shop communication practices

Employment Opportunities

Companies need competent machinists. This program is designed to assist with that need by training entry-level machinist helpers in this role.

Program Requirements

An academic advisor will review your preparation in Mathematics and English with you. You’ll be guided to appropriate preliminary coursework to give you the greatest chance of success in this program.
